Can a penny really make a difference? A penny in the United States is virtually worthless, but in China the penny can be life changing for both the giant panda and local villagers who will be employed for the replanting.
The Power of the Penny
- 100 pennies will purchase 17 bamboo seedlings
- 500 pennies will purchase 23 bamboo clumps
- 1,500 pennies will feed a panda for a day
- 45,000 pennies will feed a panda for a month
- 100,000 pennies will plant a 1/3 of an acre of bamboo
- 300,000 pennies will plant an entire acre of bamboo
- 600,000 pennies will feed one panda for a year
The Pennies 4 Pandas program shows children and adults that they can make a positive impact on a global scale, one penny at a time. The Pennies 4 Pandas program also encourages children, our future leaders, to be active participants in the preservation of our natural habitats and the animals dependent on them.
